Before Adopting A German Shepherd
German Shepherds possess certain traits which must be considered
before you decide to bring one into your family. Different
breeds of dogs have different qualities that may or may not fit
into the lifestyle of the potential adopter. To understand if
you want to pursue an adoption you should read this section. If
you have any other questions about the breed, please contact us

GSD’s are extremely social dogs - this means that they love
to be with their people and this is one of the reasons we
don't adopt out to families where the German Shepherd will
not be allowed lots of indoor quality time with them.
German Shepherds bond very tightly to their families, which
is another reason we are looking at homes where we believe
the dogs will have the best chances of living out their
lives happily. We see so many "senior" GSD’s that are dumped
in shelters simply because they have become elderly. It is
very disheartening to see them so sad, worried, and actually
mourning the loss of their families before they are
ultimately killed.
German Shepherds also shed. Depending on their coats, some
of them shed a lot!
Most German Shepherds love a good game of chase, and we are
asked many times if a GSD will chase a cat - YES! Most GSD's
will chase anything that runs from them.
The average life span of a GSD is between 10 - 12 years.
That means a adopting a GSD is a long-term commitment to
your loyal friend.
